About us - Preserve America Designation

Denver, CO, February 8, 2008:  At the Saving Places Conference, held inside the 1770 Sherman Street Event Complex Center, Commissioner Ed Norden and Dan Grenard accepted the commission designating Fremont County as a “Preserve America Community”.  This award was made at a luncheon with over 500 delegates from around the State of Colorado, including members from Congress and Washington Delegates.  This award sets the stage for Fremont County to be recognized throughout the United States as a Community concerned about our History and Heritage and the need to preserve such an environment.  The Preserve America Award also represents the availability for the Fremont Heritage Advisory Council and County leaders to pursue Federal Grants to enhance Fremont County and preserve our History in a manner that has not been afforded us before.  The luncheon was very well represented by members of our community traveling from Canon City either that day or earlier in the week to attend the conference.  From the Mayor of Canon City, Fremont County Commissioners, and area attraction Managers,    there were over 20 Fremont representatives in attendance when the award was given out.   We anticipate this award and what it represents will lead to many county activities, events, and direction to keep our history alive as we head into the 21st century.

Congratulations to Fremont County, Colorado's newest preserve America Community!!!!
