The City of Cañon City, in partnership with Main St., U.S.A., Cañon City, Inc., has sponsored and administered State Historical Fund grant projects and other preservation activities for restoration and preservation of 16 historic structures in Cañon City.
The City of Cañon City’s Municipal Museum and Local History Center is a publicly and privately funded facility that obtains and preserves records and artifacts of enduring value to provide public access to a collection of materials that reflects the ongoing history of Fremont County. It houses not only artifacts and documentation of our county’s heritage, but also provides exhibits of widespread interest, including the largest single exhibit of historic phonographs in the world. The DeWeese Fireplace: The Garden Park Paleontology Society and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science both assisted with the reconstruction of this remarkable fireplace. Come inside and learn about the different dinosaur bones inbedded in this fireplace that was developed by Dall DeWeese! |
